Fix up, look sharp

I'm doing some freelance work next week and I've been asked to wear black trousers and a shirt.  If any of you know me, you'll know I don't like wearing trousers much...  I'm much more a skirts and dresses girl when it comes to work wear.  So, out I ventured today to find black trousers and some sort of shirt or blouse.  I cannot get over how hard it was, apparently around this time of year this is a challenge as I went from store to store and couldn't find many basic bits at all. I did eventually manage to complete my challenge so I've listed a few items I've spied that are classic workwear.
A white shirt or blouse is always a key item to have in your wardrobe.  I have now got a long sleeved one and a short sleeved.  This is classic and an essential item in your wardrobe.
Dorothy Perkins White Work Shirt - £14.00

Asda White Shirt - £8.00
Charles Tyrwhitt White Oxford Shirt - £19.95
Mango Slim Fit Short Sleeve shirt - SALE £14.99
Persona Ruffle Front Shirt - £65.00

White shirts are very important in every persons wardrobe, but also the bottoms should be as well.  Obviously I believe skirts are a key item, but after this week of stress, I think black trousers should be key too.

Topshop Straight Leg Trousers - £25.00
Matalan Bootcut Black Trousers - £14.00

Collection By John Lewis Tailored Black Trousers - £59.00
Next High Waist Black Trousers - £28.00
Tesco F&F Naples Black bootcut trousers - £16.00
These are some of my top picks for two key items for your working wardrobe, in the next few weeks I will be doing a work style post.  This will incorporate fashion in the work place, and other smart wear including dresses and skirts. Do remember that the beauty about a white shirt and black trousers is that they can work for anything within work, and also for any interviews.  Looking fresh, and smart is always top priority with interviews and these two wardrobe items are perfect as they are respectable.

What do you wear for your job?  Do you agree these two items should be key in your wardrobe?

  1. At the Nottingham Post, all the reports are super smart but the features team can get away with being a bit more casual. On Friday I wore a simple black dress, leggings and cream/black flats. I'm on the look out for some black trousers, too. I don't like wearing trousers but I think it'll be easier to wear a pretty top and trousers when I'm at The Post as it'll always look smart. Shopping for trousers/white shirts can be super hard! x

  2. I couldn't agree more! Xx

  3. I prefer skirts or dresses myself but i do sometimes have to wear trousers and id suggest you having a look at Topshops x

  4. i also prefer dresses and skirts to pants. have a real problem finding the right pair. but i think your black and white collection will do the basic trick. you could add some splash of colour so you don't look too dull and usual. lovely post. following your blog now.
