The infamous adidas boos trainer range, what is so good about them? They are a selection of various adidas trainer designs to cater to different elements of sport and different areas of fitness needs. I have gone back and forth with trainers trying to find something that worked, when a year or so ago I was sent a pair of adidas energy boosts. It was just before my Berlin marathon race in collaboration with adidas that these funky blue trainers landed on my doorstep. I hadn’t enough time to break this particular pair of adidas trainers in before my race but as soon as the race was over, the love affair between myself and the boosts began. I soon discovered there were different types of boosts, so decided to try out the ultra boosts, then the supernova boosts. I have never looked back.
Ultra Boosts |
Those black pair you see above were the ones who began my love for adidas ‘boost’ trainers. I find ultra boosts fantastic for short distance running… so good I have two pairs now! I almost feel these are the trainers I can compare most to a pair of slippers – they just feel so amazing on. I love how light this particular design is.
Plus points
– Comfortable and comfortable for lots of wear
– Easy to get on and off
– Breathable mesh at the front meant my toes can spread out when running and don’t feel squashed
– Boost technology provides great underfoot cushioning
– Super fashionable and stylish!
Minus points
– The grip underneath has worn off over time with both pairs, meaning smooth or wet surfaces can be slippy
– Not tried more than 10k in these particular types
Supernova Boosts* |
These are my latest additions to my adidas trainer collection from the team at John Lewis. These actually tend to be my run to work and fitness classes trainer. Basically they are designed for an easy road run and are very comfy now they are broken in. Initially I did find I needed to do a few miles to really break them, in order to have a run where I didn’t have any issues. These feel closer to the Energy Boosts in sturdiness than the Ultra Boosts.
Plus points
– Designed so you feel very secure and supported
– A nice space for toes to spread out as the front is roomy
– Big fan of the navy and pink colours
– The added support means that I can go for longer and not feel impact like some trainers
Minus points
– The middle is slightly restrictive I found, felt quite tight to begin with.
– Took a while to get the hang of the lacing system
Energy Boosts |
These were the babies I got when I went to do the Berlin Marathon with Adidas. Excuse the mud they got a bit covered when I went for a morning rainy run! These were far more comfortable than I’d originally anticipated.
Plus points
– Unlike the Ultra boosts these ones gave me really good stability so I’d use them for longer distances
– Love the vibrant colours
– Lots of use with very little wearing signs… well apart from the mud!
Minus Points
– A bit of a heavier model
– Took awhile to break them in
There are my 4 pairs of adidas boosts! Two of which are the same, but different generations and the other two are my new faves. If something works why change it? If you’re hunting for trainers I strongly suggest finding a specific running shop that videos your running stride and style on a treadmill, that way you will find out what arch support you need and ultimately find the right shoe for you. I have literally gone through so many trainers but I’m such a big fan of the boost range, even after being sent a pair I’ve gone and bought my own.
Do you find trainer shopping hard? Have you tried this range in trainer before?

Running shoes are so damn hard. I've had gait analysis and am currently penning a pros/cons post about them because they turned out not to be the holy grail of shoe help I thought. I'm currently bouncing around in limbo with my shoes & hoping for the best- something I must address but it's just. so. hard!

Hate to admit this but I never buy a decent trainer I literally buy something that feels alright. I'm just joining a GYM and next year plan to get back into my running so until I get my fitness levels up I'm sticking to my cheapies I'll buy some decent ones when I start my running up x
Melissa Major says
These look like very stylish, I haven't bought trainers in ages! I need to get some soon seeing as I am going to start running again soon.
Lindsey Burton-Harrison says
I am totally bambozzled, I did not realise that there are different style of trainers, for different distances. I do love to run, I don't get to as much as I like anymore but it's something I'm certainly working towards, their is a running store near me so may actually pop in to find out more! Still getting my head around that they have a machine assign you with the right pair of trainers
