The festive season is magical, but it’s no secret that it can also be a little… hectic! Between wrapping presents, endless social gatherings, and ensuring everything goes to plan, it’s all too easy to put yourself at the bottom of your to-do list. This year, I’m focusing on intentional relaxation—giving my mental health the care it deserves and truly enjoying the season’s slower moments. If that sounds like your vibe, here are my go-to relaxation tips and some hand-picked best buys to help you embrace the holidays in your own way.
Create a Cozy Corner for Relaxation
When it comes to recharging, the environment you’re in can make a huge difference. I’m all about transforming a little corner of my home into a haven of calm. Think soft lighting, luxurious textures, and soothing scents—a space where you can curl up with a good book or just enjoy a moment of peace.
Best Buys:
- Weighted Blankets: If you’ve never tried a weighted blanket, now’s the time. They’re game-changers for stress relief, and I got a fantastic one from Aldi.
- Scented Candles: My favourites are from Neom Organics. Their lavender and cedarwood options create the ultimate calming atmosphere.
- Lovall Athleisure Loungewear: This brand is a new discovery for me, and I have to say I’m in love! You can’t go wrong with Lovall’s beautifully crafted sustainable loungewear. Their cozy sweatshirts and leggings are perfect for those slow winter evenings—stylish enough for a coffee run but comfy enough for a Netflix binge. I have tried and tested both situations. I’m absolutely in LOVE with their loungewear sets, check out the sage one. The material is so good, so much so my dog wouldn’t leave me alone for a snuggle! Check out this Lovall sweatshirt and Lovall leggings I got!*
Move Mindfully to Melt Stress Away
For me, nothing beats gentle movement to clear my head and reconnect with my body. Whether it’s a sunrise yoga session or a simple stretch in the middle of the day, a little activity goes a long way toward feeling balanced.
Best Buys:
- Yoga Mat: There are lots of yoga mats out there, but be sure to find one that is supportive, non-slip, and makes yoga or meditation seamless. Don’t go sliding about during downward dog!
- Lovall Activewear: Their sports bras and leggings have the perfect mix of stretch and support—just what you need for yoga, a walk, or even a lazy day lounging around.
- Noise-Cancelling Headphones: For meditation or just zoning out, you can’t go wrong with Spy Headphones, I have both wired and wireless, in fact, it’s a brand I’ve used for years. So trust me on this one.
Unplug to Reconnect
One of the best things I’ve done for my mental health during the holidays is attempting to carve out tech-free time. If only! But even 30 minutes away from screens can work wonders for your mindset. Use that time to reflect, journal, or simply sit in stillness. I sometimes just give my pup that extra bit of fuss time. She’s happy, I’m happy.
Best Buys:
- Journals: The Five Minute Journal is a great way to incorporate daily gratitude and mindfulness.
- Books: Right now, I’m in a bit of book crossroads, as I’ll be honest I’m a thriller reader. It’s probably not the most relaxing but none the less, reading is an excellent way to switch off from the world. I’m currently reading the House Across the Lake by Riley Sager. It’s a nail biter!
Embrace Aromatherapy for Instant Calm
Growing up, my mum used to host aromatherapy parties, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Aromatherapy has such a powerful effect on the mind and body. Lavender is my go-to for relaxation, as it is for many, but there are so many amazing blends out there. You can find them in candles or use 100% essential oils with an oil burner for a personalised touch.
Best Buys:
- Essential Oils: Tisserand (my go to) offers gorgeous blends like lavender, eucalyptus, and chamomile. Perfect for calming the mind. These oils are incredible quality too.
- Oil Burners: Pair your favourite essential oil with a beautiful ceramic oil burner for an added touch of elegance to your relaxation space.
- Scented Candles: Look for candles with natural essential oils, for a soothing atmosphere.
Indulge in Restorative Rituals
Rituals can turn even the simplest acts into moments of luxury. I’m all about long baths, skincare sessions, and sipping on a warm drink—whatever makes you feel nurtured. I absolutely love when I have a bit of pamper time, mainly because I just don’t have time, so it makes the moments I can, even more special.
Best Buys:
- Bath Soaks: Transform your tub into a spa with bath salts, if you like Bath Bombs, Lush do some excellent options
- Tea Sets: I am such a big tea drinker over here, so when I’m not having a spot of good old Yorkshire Tea, I love Pukka Bed time tea. It’s so smooth and relaxing, it just puts me straight into unwind mode.
- Face Masks: Hydrate and refresh your skin with a good face mask.
Connect Without the Stress
Let’s face it, socialising during the holidays can be exhausting, or it at least it has the capability to be. Keep it simple with low-key gatherings that focus on genuine connection rather than Pinterest-worthy perfection. And if you’re staying in, virtual catch-ups count too! I love doing an ugly sweater get together, I did this with work colleagues before. Still just as fun!
Best Buys:
- Board Games: You can’t go wrong with classics like Uno! If you know, you know!
- Matching Loungewear: Coordinating sets from Lovall are not only adorable but make for a cozy night in with loved ones. Goal for 2025, to have a good old fashioned PJ party, and get my girls over to watch movies in loungewear! Staying in, is the new going out!
Wrapping It Up
This holiday season, give yourself permission to slow down! I certainly am. Whether you’re nestled under a weighted blanket in Lovall’s cozy loungewear (it’s where you’ll find Winnie the pup and me), journaling by candlelight, or moving through a gentle yoga flow, remember that prioritising your mental health isn’t selfish at all—it’s necessary. Let’s celebrate the season with a little more intention and a lot less stress. After all, the best gift you can give is a happy, relaxed you.
Happy holidays, my loves! Let me know your fave ways to relax in the comments—I’m always looking for new tips to try.
